Oregon Total Loss Claims
An insurer’s vehicle valuation is not necessarily the final word. We review selected disputes involving actual cash value, comparables, condition, and related property damage.
How we can assist
Insurer valuation materials, comparable sales, mileage, options, condition, and salvage issues can matter. The office evaluates selected disputes rather than guaranteeing any particular valuation.
- Disputed vehicle valuations
- Comparable vehicle evidence
- Settlement documentation
- Coverage and liability questions

Contact the officeWhat does actual cash value mean in a total-loss claim?
A total-loss offer commonly centers on the vehicle’s actual cash value immediately before the collision, subject to applicable coverage, exclusions and valuation rules. The insurer’s calculation is not necessarily conclusive. Details such as trim, options, mileage, condition, comparable vehicles and geographic market can affect the figure.
Common problems in insurer valuation reports
Reports may use incorrect equipment, inappropriate comparables, disputed condition ratings, unsupported adjustments or inaccurate mileage. Some offers raise additional questions about taxes, title charges, salvage retention or deductions. Whether a particular amount is owed depends on the policy, claim type, facts and applicable Oregon law.
How to evaluate a low total-loss offer
Obtain the full valuation report, read the assumptions behind adjustments, check your vehicle’s exact configuration and review sale listings and other credible market evidence. Keep photographs, maintenance records and documentation of recent work when relevant. The aim is an evidence-based valuation, not simply a higher number.
First-party and third-party claims are different
When claiming under your own collision coverage, the contract and its dispute provisions can control. When seeking recovery from an at-fault party or that party’s insurer, fault and proof of damages are central. Do not assume an appraisal clause, deductible or valuation formula applies the same way to both claims.
What if a vehicle is repaired rather than totaled?
A repaired vehicle can present a different type of loss: diminished market value after an accident. Our office evaluates selected Oregon total-loss and vehicle property-damage disputes. Request a case review.
